The aesthetic appeal, comfort, convenience, and effectiveness of Invisalign® treatment

If you think of braces as unsightly, uncomfortable metal “hardware,” we encourage you to rethink orthodontic treatment. Today’s so-called “conventional” braces are made from lightweight, flexible wires and brackets. They are perfectly color-blended to match seamlessly with your teeth. Creative dentists like Dr. Dan Hwang of Creo Dentistry in Marysville, Washington, also offer alternatives to traditional orthodontic treatment in the form of clear aligners. Invisalign® is a time-tested, versatile treatment option to resolve uneven spacing and even bite problems effectively. This technique has come a long way since it was first introduced to straighten teeth as a cosmetic treatment in the late 1990s. Due to design innovations, Invisalign® is now an appropriate and attractive option for patients with a range of misalignment and bite issues.

Brush up on Invisalign®

Clear aligners are made from a safe, flexible thermoplastic. They are customized to your mouth. When you slip them over your teeth, like a whitening tray or retainer, they place consistent low force on the teeth. This gentle pressure gradually repositions the teeth. Dr. Hwang’s patients like that they can remove the trays when they eat meals and when they brush and floss their teeth. This feature allows them to continue to enjoy their favorite foods throughout treatment. They can also better keep their teeth and gums free of bacteria and plaque that promotes destructive decay and gum disease. So, your mouth remains healthy without brackets and wires getting in the way of your ability to maintain excellent oral hygiene easily, consistently, and thoroughly.

Patients also tell us that they like the low-maintenance nature of Invisalign® designers. They do not require lots of special care or products to keep them stain-free and in good shape. They essentially adjust well and quickly to having the aligners in their mouth. Perhaps best of all, no one else has to know that they are straightening their teeth beside us – their friendly dental team! The aligners are made from transparent plastic. All others notice is that your teeth are increasingly straighter, and your smile looks more attractive.

The process

Invisalign® is a high-tech orthodontic option. Due to this feature, there are many advantages with aligner therapy over conventional braces. For starters, Dr. Hwang uses proprietary software to create a visual representation and animation of your teeth being moved throughout treatment. Using this 3-dimensional model of your mouth, you can see how Invisalign® works to reposition your teeth. You also get to see how your smile will look post-treatment, even before committing to the process. The treatment itself is straightforward and hassle-free; every couple of weeks, you will exchange the current aligner for the next aligner in the series of trays required to correct your bite or alignment issues. In turn, it is essential to wear the aligner trays in the correct order. It is also necessary to wear them for the required minimum time each day. This wear time is generally at least 20 to 22 hours, which means you only take them out for eating, brushing, and flossing.

Dr. Hwang will periodically check your teeth to assure treatment is progressing well and on schedule. Generally, with proper compliance, treatment time and effectiveness are comparable to braces.
